Value Added Services and Support

Upon acceptance of Medisavers products, Clinical Nurse Advisors are available to educate, provide total glove management programmes and clinically support Trusts/Health Boards. The Nurse Advisors are based all over the Country, including Wales, N. Ireland and Scotland.

Medisavers support services can be tailored to individual Hospitals requirements, but some of the services currently offered can be summarised as below.

Customer Management Programmes

Review meetings are generally carried out on a quarterly basis as standard. However, they can be as frequent as a customer may require, particularly if there is a major roll out programme to standardise on products.
  • Medisavers offer regular review meetings with Procurement, Occupational Health and Infection Control Departments.
  • Meetings are held to keep customers appraised of new product developments.
  • Review meetings are conducted to monitor glove usage and other possible opportunities for savings.

Education

With trained Clinical Nurse Advisors (all RGN’s) working in all areas across the UK, we can offer tailor made services to provide education to all levels of staff. Medisavers provide a full range of educational services which are provided free of charge to Hospitals.
  • Training is provided using the most appropriate medium to suit audience size and preference.
  • RCN Accreditation has been awarded to a Medisavers presentation regarding Glove and Latex Allergies (1hr).
  • Education is carried out with full authorisation from the Trust/Health Board taking into account National Legislation and local organisational policies / guidelines on glove use etc.
  • A number of educational leaflets and posters are available should staff require further information. These can be adapted to individual Hospitals requirements.

Glove Audits

Education includes glove audits within the individual Trusts. They are carried out initially on acceptance of Medisavers products and in conjunction with Infection Control and / or Occupational Health departments by our Clinical Nurse Advisors. Audits thereafter are carried out on a scheduled basis by request.
  • Audit questionnaires are adapted to suit an individual Trust / Health Board.
  • Upon completion, collated audit information is presented to all interested parties in electronic format.
  • Once presented, audit information becomes the property of the specific Trust / Health Board.
Glove audits are a useful tool to monitor glove usage. They identify where gloves are being used in-appropriately e.g. sterile latex gloves used for general, non-hazardous cleaning tasks. Audits can also identify and highlight the scope for savings in the following categories:
  • Reduction in the inappropriate use of surgeon’s gloves.
  • Switching brands – standardising to one brand.
  • Reduction of unnecessary use of sterile, as opposed to non-sterile procedure gloves.
  • Better targeting of the supply of special gloves for use by people with allergies to latex gloves.
Medisavers provide an audit form that can be adjusted to suit individual Trust needs. Once completed the forms are collected and collated, then presented back to the Trust with conclusions and recommendations. The Trust is then left to take action where they feel necessary. It is recommended that glove usage be monitored annually.
